I ordered this wrap after finding out I have a Calcium deposit in my shoulder which has turned to Tendinitis. The Freezie wrap is awesome and instantly takes the pain away. The only thing negative I can say is if you are right at a 40 size chest order the SM/LG (under 40'). I am in the process of exchanging sizes because I ordered the LG/XL (40'-48') and the wrap is bulky and very big. Female groin pain and Groin Disruption

Both women and men can suffer from groin injuries, but there are two very clear reasons why women have different groin pain than men. While both women and men have the same set of muscles, tendons and ligaments that make-up the stomach and pelvis. The soft tissue connects to the bone in very different ways;

Women our deep and superficial ingunial ring are stronger and reinforced to allow the extension for pregnancy. It is possible to have an injury to the soft tissue in the groin area. The two most common types of groin injury for women are Groin Disruption and Sports Hernia.

Men they have an archway in the external oblique muscle both side of the pelvis. This opening allows the vas deferens, blood vessels, nerves, all part of the male reproductive system to pass through to the testicle.

For a women experiencing groin pain, the root cause may by an underlay condition related problem, which can be associated directly to the female reproductive system. Women are less likely to have groin injury related to the muscles, tendons or ligaments, but it can happen when your not prepared.

Groin anatomy and the Hip Piriformis muscles

Your groin is anywhere your stomach ends and your legs start the pelvic (hip) region of the body. It is complicated area with 17 muscles, 18 bursae, 5 bones, numerous tendons, and ligaments connecting your leg bone (femur), pelvis and spine all together. There are two areas of muscles in the hip that you may have strained or pulled.

First are your hip adductor muscles help to bring your legs together and rotate your hip inwards towards the mid-line of your body. The short adductors include the pectineus, adductor brevis, and adductor longus, and the long adductors include the adductor magnus and gracilis. All of these muscles are located on the inside of your thigh. At the end of these muscles are tendons, which are tough, fibrous tissues that connect your muscles to your bones. Most of these muscles and tendons attach your pubic bone (lower part of the pelvis) to your thigh bone (femur); however the gracilis muscle attaches to the lower leg bone (tibia) not the femur. These muscles and tendons start in the groin (crease at the junction of the inner part of the thigh where it meets the body near the external genital area) and move down through the inner thigh to the inside of the knee.

Second are your hip flexor muscles are among the most powerful muscles and tendons in your body. They are make-up the deep of set muscles at the front of your hip (iliopsoas), outer hip muscles (tensor fasciae latae), and muscles that lie over the top of the iliopsoas muscles in your front, upper thigh area (rectus femoris and sartorius).

There are a group of smaller muscles which make up the iliopsoas is actually of 2 muscles: the psoas major and the iliacus (psoas minor weak flexor muscle) which lie deep beneath your skin surface. The psoas muscle lies at the front of your hip. It starts in your lower back, attaches to the base of your sacrum (triangular bone that forms the bottom of your spine and the back part of your pelvis) on the inner surface of your ilium (the upper and widest part of the pelvis/hip bone) and ends on the top of your femur (thigh bone). The iliacus starts from your hip bone/ilium, and attaches across to the inner surface of your lower spine and sacrum. It also ends at the top of your femur. Both of these muscles come together via the same tendon and attach to the bump on the inside of the shaft of your femur (the lesser trochanter) - this is where most injuries occur.

What is Groin Disruption?

A Groin Disruption injury is when internal oblique muscle and the inguinal ligament pulls up and away from the pelvis and the transversus abdominus muscle becomes loose and floppy. As well resulting in chronic groin pain and a dilated superficial inguinal ring.

Groin injuries can happen to women, but less than 1% have a groin disruption. Men are 10 times more likely to experience groin disruption and a typically active young sportsman, rare for a man over 45 to have a groin disruption. (source The Gilmore Groin and Hernia Clinic)

What are Groin Injury Symptoms

If you have a Groin Disruption there are often no obvious external symptoms or signs. You may experience a deep or sharp pain and discomfort from your lower abdomen, pelvis and groin area (your lower stomach muscles around to your pubic bone and under to the bottom of your body between your legs). Sudden movements or when exerting yourself in activities that involve kicking, twisting, side-stepping, sprinting, and lifting will create more pain. Activities that increase intra-abdominal pressure like resistance sit-ups, coughing or sneezing can aggravate the pain. You will often feel pain and tenderness on one side of the abdomen or groin near the just underneath the genitals or deep in the inner thigh at the fold of your leg (pubic tubercle), which radiates into the genital area, and can move down into the hip and/or inner thigh area.

Experiencing sharp pain?

This pain and stiffness can be experienced during or after activities, and can last for hours or weeks. You may find it difficult to get out of your car a few hours after your activity and/or find it hard to get out of bed the next morning. Your groin disruption pain will often go away with rest, but returns when you resume the activity.

Weakness in the upper thigh area when bringing upper leg or hip closer to the center of your body(adduction) can be seen and/or experienced with a groin disruption when running, walking or kicking.

Should You Seek Medical Attention?

This is up to your discretion; however any continued discomfort in your groin or pelvis area should be investigated. If you continue to experience the groin disruption symptoms noted above and have tried the suggested conservative treatments (see conservative treatments for groin disruption), it is recommended that you seek professional medical attention. If you experience any of the symptoms noted below it is recommended that you seek immediate attention:

Seek medical attention for your condition.
  • Severe pain and tenderness.
  • Problems or swelling in or around the reproductive organs (genitalia).
  • A cut, lump or bulge or bleeding in your groin area.
  • Major hip/thigh movement problems causing a severe limp.
  • Urinary problem.
  • A groin rash.
  • Postoperative problem after groin operation.
  • Exposure to an STD.
  • Groin pain has not improved after 1 week, where symptoms are more severe or frequent.
  • Signs of shock (lightheadedness, restlessness, shallow breathing, sweating, weakness, nausea.)

What Causes a Groin Injury?

A groin disruption is usually considered a chronic condition (long term and/or recurring) and is a result of repeated trauma or overuse of your groin area. The pain begins slowly as a result of inflexible, tight and eventually weakened and damaged hip flexor muscles (psoas major, iliacus, tensor fasciae latae) and inner thigh/groin muscles (adductors, sartorius, pectineus, gracilis).

Sporting activities which bend your pelvis forward and stretch your lower abdominal muscles and involve a lot of repeated twisting and turning. Women who are active in sports can over-stretch the muscles, such as soccer, gymnastics, swimming specifically the breaststroke, figure skating, running, basketball, and hockey. The combination of these forceful movements puts added stress on the muscles, tendons and ligaments causing the 'disruption' of the tissue(s) and it pull aways from the bone. You can actually cause more than one groin injury at a time (for example osteitis pubis or adductor tendinopathy with groin disruption).

Other factors that influence your risk of having groin disruption are age-related weaknesses as a result of degeneration in your bones and muscles, previous surgery, obesity, and defects in your groin area from birth. Anyone can suffer from a groin injury, but it's most common in adults due to degeneration of tissue as we age, over time the tendons, ligaments and muscles will wear down. This is where the fibers in your tissue will become weaker - it's just a natural process that happens as we age.

Do you really have a groin injury?

Female groin pain may show up on either right or left side of the body. Are you really suffering from a groin injury? The hip and groin is a very complicated joint and large amount of muscles, tendons and ligaments all attached to the bones.

  • Hip pain - An infection or injury in hip joint. It could be snapping hip syndrome, hip bursitis, arthritis, trochanteric bursitis, or fracture of the hip joint.

  • Iiliopsoas tendinitis - An overuse / repetitive use injury of the hip area, resulting in damage or micro-tearing to the tendon tissue. You may experience pain and tenderness that slowly increases over time in the front of your hip and groin.
  • Urinary tract infections - An infection of the bladder that causes pain or burning sensation when using the washroom, need to pee often and pain in the lower stomach.
  • Pregnancy - The body goes through hormonal changes to reduce the tension on the muscles, tendons and ligaments in the pelvis to allow the baby to exit through the birth canal. This change can be pressure and pain in the groin area for women.
  • Femoral hernia - This usually happens in the lower part of your abdomen when you have part of your intestine sticks through a abnormal hole in the wall of your abdomen. The primary characteristic of this condition is a painful knot or bulge. Femoral hernias are about 4 times more common in women than men, and can affect women of any age.
  • Ostetis Pubis - Overuse injury to the cartilage and/or surrounding tendons that holds the two pelvis bones together. Rupture or inflammation of the cartilage can be very painful and can cause chronic groin pain.
  • Myositis Ossificans - A blunt injury to a muscle that causes deep bleeding in some people the body responses but healing with growing bone within the muscle. The quadriceps or thigh muscles are more likely be an area that may develop this bone in muscle growth leading to transfer pain into the groin.

  • Iliopsoas bursitis - Each joint in the body has a bursa sac. This sac(s) acts as a cushion to the joint between bones and overlying soft tissue. Over use of the surround soft tissue will cause inflammation and irritation. This is felt in the groin area and front of your hip and is another leading cause for groin pain.
  • Kidney stones - Causes acute onset of colicky abdominal pain that starts at your side and radiates to the groin and labia. It's often associated with nausea and vomiting.
  • Pelvic disorders - This can include pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy, enlargement of the lymph nodes, and ovarian cyst.
  • Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) and non-sexually transmitted such as infections of the large intestine.
How do I Diagnose a Groin Injury

A visit to your doctor is the best way for diagnoses of any type of groin pain. A physical exam will rule out if you have a inguinal hernia or other causes of groin pain. It is one of the most difficult groin conditions to diagnose, because it is a subtle muscle injury with no visible hernia (bulging tissue).

To help your doctor achieve a proper diagnosis, he/she will begin with a medical history about you, your current condition and symptoms. He/she will inquire about the intensity of your present pain, the duration of your symptoms and the limitations you are experiencing. Details about what instigated the problem, when it started, and whether or not you have ever had treatments for this or a similar condition in the past, are very helpful in assessing your injury.

Groin series of abdominal and hip movements

 

A physical examination will be performed to determine if you have any signs of a groin disruption or other pelvic or groin injuries. Your doctor will look and feel the bones and soft tissue in and around your pelvis and groin area as well as your genital area, hip and upper thigh to evaluate sameness, recognize differences and identify pain and tenderness. This will help to discover any abnormalities, such as mild or severe inflammation, fluid, bone or tissue deformity, and weakened muscles. He/she may ask you to complete a series of abdominal and hip movements such as doing a sit-up or rotating your hip inward to see what motions cause pain, weakness, or instability. He/she will also evaluate your the way you walk (gait) to determine if you have any adductor or other muscle weakness.

You doctor may or may not discover the source of you pain after you examination. Then diagnostic testing will ordered help discover a groin disruption and are often used to rule out other conditions that cause groin and abdominal pain.

Hip/Groin Xray

X-rays will provide a two-dimensional image of the overall structure of your pelvis. They are helpful in identifying pelvis instability, abnormal bone shapes (bone spurs or bone cysts, fractures, wear and tear on the joints) and/or other groin or hip problems. A herniography (x-ray involving an injection into the membrane of your abdominal cavity) is rarely used anymore, as other diagnostic tests are available and there is a risk of sticking the needle into your intestines.

Isotope Bone Scans are used to identify bone abnormalities, such as a tear, inflammation, fracture or infection of the pubic bone. It will also identify whether other groin conditions are present (osteitis pubis).

Hip/Groin MRI

MRIs (magnetic resonance imaging) will provide more detailed information and will help to evaluate the soft tissues in and around your groin and pelvis (muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and other connective tissues). It can identify ligament or tendon damage, and can help to determine the extent of your injury, the displacement and degree of your tear or inflammation, as well as other associated groin conditions.

Diagnostic ultrasound (ultrasonography) or a CT scan (computerized tomography) will be used to provide a more thorough 2 or 3-dimensional assessment of the soft tissues, organs and bones in and around your groin and pelvis.


How Do I Cure Groin Injury -

Weight loss and/or Weight Maintenance, which involves eating a balanced diet full of protein, complex carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and antioxidants. This will help support a healthy system and will help you to maintain your weight. If you gain just 10 pounds, your joints must bear from 25 up to 100 pounds extra, which can add unnecessary stress to your body. Limiting your caffeine, alcohol and nicotine consumption will also improve your health.

Live a long and healthy life

Always learn the proper form and techniques for your activity to help prevent injuries.
